February cooking session - Make the most of seasonal Fruit & Veg

One session is currently scheduled for 22nd February from 10am until 12.30pm.

If more than 8 people want to join, or if you want to organise one at a different day/time, I can organise an extra one for a group of minimum 5 people. Just get in touch.

A good diet starts with a lot of vegetables of all kinds (root, leaf, squash, fruit) and all colours (yellow, orange, red, green). They provide vitamins, minerals, fibres and other wonderful bio compounds that help you live your life to the full.

But comes February and you are starting to be a bit fed up with eating the same fruit and veg again and again. Surely it is time for Spring vegetables to come? Well, not yet. It is going to be at least another 2 months before tasty and local asparagus, strawberries, fresh peas and new potatoes should 'naturally' appear on the market stalls (of course these days you find everything at all time, but quality and cost aren't so good!).

Luckily winter fruit and veg have so much to give, we shouldn't wish for them to disappear too quickly from our plate.

Squashes, fennels, carrots, chicories, cabbages, cauliflowers, beetroots, pears, apple, oranges, etc. We will explore all the goodness of these products and prepare some very quick and simple side dishes as well as some more complete dishes that can be made with them. And will discuss the nutritional benefit of eating them.

Session content *

Hot-Cold Salad of Roasted Veg

Beetroot, Orange and Ginger Soup

Chicory and Chestnut pie

Carrot and Bean Moroccan Salad

Butternut Squash Laska

Pear Tarte Fine

* subject to change depending on availability of ingredients and inspiration!
